WHAT IS IFS?


Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative approach to psychotherapy developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz. At its heart, IFS recognizes that the mind is naturally made up of multiple "parts" — each with its own perspective, feelings, and role.

When parts carry burdens of pain, fear, or shame, they can become extreme, reactive, or disconnected from our deepest Self. IFS work involves gently meeting these parts with curiosity and compassion so that the Self — our core of wisdom and wholeness — can lead.

The 8 C's of Self are the qualities that emerge naturally when we are in Self Energy: Calmness, Curiosity, Clarity, Compassion, Confidence, Creativity, Courage, and Connectedness.

WHAT IS EXPANSION BRAINSPOTTING?


Expansion Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a powerful brain-body therapy that works by identifying specific eye positions — "brainspots" — that correspond to where the nervous system holds both unresolved trauma and untapped resourcefulness.

Expansion Brainspotting focuses specifically on the positive — using dual brainspotting spots to access and strengthen your nervous system's natural capacity for the Self qualities. Rather than processing distress, we are expanding into the calm, connected, creative energy that is your birthright.

This makes it a uniquely powerful complement to IFS: the insight of the mind meets the felt sense of the body.

Genuinely open to understanding why your parts or other people react as they do, without agenda to change them. Wanting to understand rather than judge.

COURAGE

Approaching formerly feared parts or situations with greater consciousness. Standing up to injustice, speaking for your own extreme parts, and apologizing for negative impact.

CALMNESS

Being centered and physically grounded in the face of stressful situations. Experiencing a spacious, peaceful quiet inside — a calming presence for yourself and others.

CLARITY

Maintaining a clear, undistorted view of situations and parts — free from projection. Seeing what is actually true rather than what fear or old stories suggest.

COMPASSION

Seeing beyond reactive behavior to the fear or pain beneath. Feeling genuine care for those who suffer, including your own parts, without being overwhelmed by their pain.

CREATIVITY

Freedom to realize creative potential and explore novelty. When protectors relax and parts express themselves unencumbered by burdens of fear, worthlessness, or shame.

CONFIDENCE

An abiding trust in your own goodness and worth. Self trusts its competence even when parts are uncertain or distrustful — relating to people in ways that are healing and effective.

CONNECTEDNESS

A felt sense of connection with all parts and all people — recognizing that all life is connected and that the sense of separateness is ultimately an illusion.

A slower, more spacious pace suited to those with busy schedules or who prefer longer windows for the work to settle. Monthly sessions still build beautifully over time — the nervous system unfolds at its own rate.
